Alfranda “Al” Durr is the Equal Opportunity / Diversity Office Chief for the Army National Guard (ARNG) of the United States Department of Defense located in Arlington, VA. He is responsible for implementing solutions and developing initiatives that fosters the human dimension that enhances readiness. Mr. Durr’s extensive duties include the overall management of large scale, ARNG-wide diversity projects.
Prior to his current position, Mr. Durr served 28 years as a commissioned officer in the ARNG while holding a number of Director and Program Management positions. He has more than 32 years of experience in human resource, equal opportunity, program management as well as diversity and inclusion programs. While holding various leadership roles within the Department of Defense and Washington State Government Mr. Durr received a range of professional honors and awards and has been recognized at the national level. Mr. Durr holds a Master’s of Business Administration in Quality Systems Improvement from the National Graduate School and has a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification and has completed the Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Course. Mr. Durr is a frequent speaker at human resources, diversity conferences and a variety of federal government forums throughout the nation.
Mr. Durr completed his undergraduate studies at Washington State University earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. During his undergraduate years, he was a member of the university basketball and track teams earning varsity letters in both. After graduation, Mr. Durr remained active tutoring disadvantaged youth within the Seattle Public Schools and Boys and Girls Clubs. His efforts were acknowledged as the Boys and Girls Club Volunteer of the Year in 2003.
Within the church community he serves as Trustee and Usher while assisting with outreach initiatives to feed the hungry. As a member of the Woodbridge Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated, he serves on the Board of Directors for the Woodbridge Foundation the philanthropic arm of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated and volunteers his time to help at risk youth.
Mr. Durr is married to his wife and best friend Robin. They have four boys who are currently in college or serving in the military. His professional affiliations include membership in the American Society for Quality and the Washington State University African American Alumni.
Mr. Durr’s passion for achievement was shaped by two factors; he was the first member of his family to graduate college and he is committed to providing for those who are less fortunate. That is what motivates Mr. Durr to continually press forward.
